Programme News on Tuesday January 11, 2011 The brotherhood of the Virgen del Mar held on Sunday the traditional pilgrimage to the patron saint of Almeria in commemoration of 508 anniversary of his appearance on the beach Torregarcía . The day started around 8.30 am with the mass of pilgrims at the shrine and was chaired by the prior of the Dominicans and chaplain of the guild, Fray Justo Cuberos Santiago. After the Eucharist, Our Lady of the Sea came to his shrine to the shrine of Torregarcía, where he arrived on 11.00. On the beach were his devotees who carried on their shoulders the little throne of the Virgin to the interior of the chapel built in his honor. The Virgin was visited all day by some 6,000 people.
